A few questions clients normally ask me

In the US, what's an expat?

A U.S. citizen and Green Card holder living outside of America for more than 183 days and has no plans to return anytime soon.

Do I have to pay taxes if I no longer live in the U.S.?

The U.S. wants citizens living outside the country to report their global income rather than pay taxes on it.

Do U.S. citizens living abroad need to file U.S. tax returns?

The U.S. government has set a requirement for citizens/green card holders to report their worldwide income regardless of their residency.

Does a US citizen living abroad file a 1040 or 1040NR?

U.S. citizens and resident aliens use Form 1040 to report their global income. Meanwhile, Form 1040-NR is used by the non-resident alien to report their U.S.-sourced income.

What are the consequences for a U.S. citizen living abroad and not filing anything with the U.S.?

There are penalties for failure to file, 5% each month, of the unpaid taxes, and a maximum of 25%.

What happens if I don't file my FBAR?

There is a $10,000 penalty for non-wilful violation and $100,000 or 50% of the amount in the account for willful violation.

Is my data, account information, and documents safe with kksilvery?

I have taken measures to safeguard your data. We have systems and protocols to ensure data security.
